CHARITY SUPPORT

Supporting Nakuru Hope with their mission to provide food, education, a home and counselling to those who are destitute.

ABOUT

Helping the people in need of Nakuru, Kenya

Nakuru Hope was established in 2008 with a rented little house on the edge of Kaptembwa, a slum area of over 200,000 persons in the most destitute conditions. The purpose of the school or learning centres was to teach women to sew and become dressmakers so that they would have a tool of trade to afford their children to go to school. With a small garage at the side of the house, they opened a pre-primary school, beginning with 20 children. These children like the women who came to learn were illiterate, with no hope of ever having an education.

In 2013 after countless fundraising activities and donations received, combined with a lot of commitment and hard work Nakuru Hope built its school on its own land.

2017 they opened our second Home for boys which is located on our Farm, just 20 mins from School and a half way home for older boys of 18 who have not completed University.

In 2019 Nakuru Hope finished all classrooms and now teach up to Grade 8.

In June 2024 Alex and Nathan made the trip to Nakuru in Kenya to volunteer at the school and discover first-hand the incredible work the charity does to support the under privileged in Nakuru.

On the 10 day trip Alex and Nathan helped and supported in various ways.

  • Helping out on the charity farm with general duties, picking food and building a basketball hoop for the children.

  • Repairing broken school desks.

  • Building a custom offline learning pack for the school, including educational programs, a custom “Learn to code HTML course” and an offline school wikipedia.

  • Helping with food preparation, serving and washing up for 300 kids.

  • Improving the school IT computers by; installing new custom wallpapers and IT policies, cleaning up applications and enabling internet for the entire classroom.

Technical Support

Rebuilt the Nakuru Hope sponsorship platform

Over the course of a year, Alex and Nathan developed Nakuru Hope CONNECT, working remotely to rebuild the charity's sponsorship platform, delivering a more seamless, modern experience for those donating to stay connected with their children online.

Built an offline learning pack for students

During the trip to Kenya Alex and Nathan put together a complete offline learning back to help teach basic skills. This included installing educational programs, a custom-built “Learn to code HTML course”, a “Learn to code JavaScript course” and an offline school version of Wikipedia.

Improved the computers in the classroom

The computers in the school needed some love and cleanup. Every computer had ended up being different, students had changed whatever they wanted and more. Alex and Nathan made them fit for school by cleaning them up, creating a new school wallpaper, applying I.T policies and making the internet safe for use. They installed the offline learning pack and showed it all to the students.
